cleaning tips ✴ make your jewellery shine ✴
DAY TO DAY:
✴ Take care not to catch your welded jewellery - strong tension will snap it
✴ Avoid direct contact with strong chemicals, lotions and perfumes
✴ Rinse with clean water after gym sessions, spa days, sea / pool swimming, hot tub use
ONCE A MONTH:
✴ Thoroughly but gently clean your jewellery. I will provide you with an aftercare pack at your appointment. See below for specific metal cleaning:
✴ Sterling silver: sterling silver can and will oxidize over time with continuous wear. Use a polishing cloth and apply pressure to the chain to clean the tarnish off. This will restore it’s former fresh shine.
✴ Gold filled: mix a small amount dish soap with warm water and dip a soft bristled toothbrush in the mixture. Gently clean the chain, getting in between the links to remove built up oils or lotions. Wipe off excess residue with a soft cloth (not a polishing cloth) and your chain should be as good as new. Remember… gold filled jewellery has a heavy gold plating, so if you use a polishing cloth, it will rub off layers of the plating.
✴ 9ct gold: 9ct gold is going to last forever with less chance of tarnishing or de-colourisation. However, if there is a build up of product or oils / sweat on your jewellery, it will look duller. Gentle cleaning with dish soap will restore its shine.
While permanent jewellery is designed for daily wear, its longevity depends on factors such as your lifestyle, skin chemistry, & aftercare. Tarnishing is not indicative of low-quality materials (I use high-quality metals). Tarnishing is due to factors like sweat, lotions, perfumes, pH levels, & acidic sweat influenced by factors like low iron levels or pregnancy.
TOP TIPS
✴ Inspect your jewellery regularly - check the links and charms for signs of wear or damage. If anything looks out of place, get in touch for a maintenance visit.
✴ Fitness fanatic? Manual labour job? When playing sports, at the gym, doing strenuous activities, or whilst at work, apply some micropore tape over your jewellery to protect it from getting caught. Gently remove the tape afterwards.
✴ If you’re a fan of fake tan, you can loosely wrap your jewellery in cling film before application. This will protect the chain from getting covered in tanning product, and can be removed once you’re finished.
